Addressing his supporters in the eastern province of Takhar on Wednesday, Presidential Candidate Ashraf-Ghani-Ahmadzai discussed the issue of good governance and pledged to ensure the construction of a power generation dam on Kakcha River.

"We will seriously work on good governance,” Ghani said.

Ghani's First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostom expressed his gratitude to his supporters and asked them to largely cast votes in the elections.

Political fallout between Puntland and Galmudug

Tension between the Puntland state and Mudug region increased significantly after a political fallout.

This disagreement became officially known after armed gunmen in Galmudug’s southern Galkacyo assailed to kill and injure people from the west of Galkacyo in Puntland.

These gunmen have killed up to 2 people and injured at least another 2 according to a statement to the media by an official named Abdi Kafi who accused the perpetrators of Galmudug.

Deh Sabz Residents Endorse Abdullah

In a gathering held on Wednesday, residents of Kabul's Deh Sabz district, announced their support for the candidacy of Abdullah Abdullah in the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled to take place on April 5, 2014.

Addressing the gathering, Abdullah argued that if the Mujahideen were part of the current political system, the security scenario of Afghanistan would have been much better and there would have been no need for the presence of international forces in the country.

The Hezb-e-Islami Shura Alliance announced its support for Presidential Candidate Zalmay Rassoul on wednesday. Head of Hezb-e-Islami Shura Alliance emphasized on ending corruption and poverty and addressing the issue of terrorism.

“From now on, we are with Zalmay Rassoul and will work for his success,” a prominent member of Hezb-e_Islami Shura Alliance Waheedullah Sabawoon said.

The Hezb-e-Islami Shura Alliance is mostly consisted of the members of Hezb-e-Islami who have separated from the leadership of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan.

Forum on Women's Role in the Next Government

The next government should ensure women's larger presence in the government and recognize the importance of women's role in the peace negotiation process, chairperson of Parliamentary Commission on Women's Affairs said on Wednesday in a forum for civil institutions and presidential candidates.

Presidential candidates highlighted women’s contribution in restoration of peace and security in the country and stated that women's rights be institutionalized in the country.

Dems to announce convention winner in May

The winner of the Democratic Party’s presidential convention would be announced in May, a few weeks after the April 9 legislative election, due to changes in the convention’s itinerary, secretary of the convention’s committee, Lt. Gen. (ret) Suaidi Marasabessy, said on Wednesday.

The committee previously planned to wrap up the convention and announce the results by the end of April. But a new plan was forwarded by the committee to hold an additional one or two public debates after the election, Suaidi said.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) began debate on the National Security Policy on Wednesday.

 

The debate was initiated by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) parliamentarian Yousaf Talpur who said the army should not be part of the dialogue process. Talpur said the army’s responsibility was to protect the country’s borders.

 

JUI-F parliamentarian Mualana Muhammad Khan Shirani said external aggression had been painted as internal conflict. He further said the purpose of the coalition support fund was to pay for services provided.
