Prime Minister of the KR and former president of Serbia discussed Kyrgyzstan's transition to DTV

Bishkek, June 17 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz Prime Minister Dzhomart Otorbaev received the delegation Club de Madrid headed by former Serbian President Boris Tadic.

During the meeting, dedicated to the country's transition to digital broadcasting, Dzh.Otorbaev noted that access to information is an important task of the state, the Government’s press service reports.

"Access to the media is one of the main conditions for development of democracy. The last four years we progressively have been building parliamentary form of government, and therefore are always interested in the development of competition in the media market. Today in Kyrgyzstan citizen has the opportunity to obtain information from various sources. However, we need to adopt best practices and knowledge of democratic states in development of information policies, particularly on access to media of ethnic minorities, " said Otorbaev.

In turn, Boris Tadic expressed his opinion that "the media can serve as a useful tool for promoting democratic principles in good hands and become a dangerous weapon in the hands of dishonest people."

"We survived the hard times of war, and we know how the media can be used to create conflict situations by disseminating false information. On the other hand, the media can help the state become stable and to improve relations between different ethnic and religious groups, " said Tadic, adding that digital broadcasting is only a technical tool, stressing that great attention should be paid to the content of programs.

The sides also discussed issues of attracting investments, the possibility of cooperation on the level of technical advice on economic issues.
