Al menos 16 personas han muerto y otras 36 han resultado heridas este sábado en dos atentados contra actos electorales en dos ciudades de Afganistán, donde el 20 de octubre se celebran elecciones parlamentarias, según ha asegurado fuentes locales a EFE.

El primer lugar tuvo lugar en la provincia de Takhar, en el noreste del país, cuando la explosión de una motocicleta cargada de explosivos mató a 14 personas e hirió a otras 35 durante un mitin de la candidata Nazifa Yousofi Beig, en el distrito de Rostaq.

With just over a week to go for Afghanistan’s parliamentary elections, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said on Thursday that it has noted, that despite significant security challenges, progress has been made by the country's security forces to create conditions for the majority of citizens to exercise their right to vote.

Tadamichi Yamamoto, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan said in the statement: "Afghanistan’s security forces are fully responsible for providing security for the elections process."

Movidos por la inacción y los actos ilegales que han presenciado, una nueva generación de afganos, en su mayoría jóvenes bien preparados, se lanzó a la arena política para intentar reemplazar a la vieja guardia en las elecciones parlamentarias del próximo 20 de octubre.

Los jóvenes son el 60 por ciento de los más de 2.500 candidatos para 249 escaños que concurren a los comicios, la mayoría de ellos rostros famosos, periodistas, empresarios, deportistas y funcionarios del Gobierno.

Un candidato a las elecciones parlamentarias en Afganistán ha sido asesinado por hombres armados no identificados en la provincia de Ghazni (sur), según han anunciado este domingo las autoridades.

 

El portavoz del gobierno provincial, Mohamad Arif Nuri, ha detallado que el cuerpo de Mohamad Daud fue hallado el sábado en la capital provincial, Ghazni, tal y como ha recogido la agencia afgana de noticias Pajhwok.

 

Candidates Begin Campaign for Parliamentary Elections

The campaign for upcoming parliamentary elections officialy kicked off on Friday night with candidates installing billboards in the city and posting videos and pictures on social media platforms.

The vote for the Wolesi Jirga, the Lowe House of parliament, is scheduled for October 20. However, it remains unclear if voting will take place in areas held by the Taliban.

Election monitoring organizations and some officials have said insecurity is a main challenge for the upcoming elections.

Kabul, 31 jul (EFE).- Afganistán celebrará elecciones presidenciales el 20 de abril de 2019, seis meses después de los comicios parlamentarios, informó hoy a Efe una fuente de la Comisión Electoral Independiente Afgana (IEC).

La decisión de la IEC fue tomada tras "una reunión consultiva con los partidos políticos y miembros de la sociedad civil", aseguró el portavoz de la IEC Mujib-ul-Rahman Shirzad.

Plan to classify electoral districts finalized: Faisal

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) office on Thursday said the plan to classify electoral constituencies in districts was being referred to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) within a week after its finalization.

CEO spokesman Javid Faisal told a press conference here that the upcoming Wolesi Jirga and district council elections would be managed through needed technology and legal procedures to purchase the technology had been completed.

The IEC has announced the election date for parliamentary and district council elections – 7 July 2018.   Addressing a press conference on Thursday afternoon, IEC chief Najibullah Ahmadzai said work is underway to ensure a free and fair election. Ahmadzai said the IEC has learnt much from past elections and that because of the war there are problems.  He said however, that government needs to focus on vulnerable areas in order to hold successful elections.

Ahmad Zia Massoud on Tuesday strongly reacted to his dismissal as President Ashraf Ghani's Special Representative on Reforms and Good Governance.

On Monday, President Ghani in a decree ordered the dismissal of Zia Massoud and dissolved his position. The decree didn’t make clear why the move was taken.

Rejecting his dismissal, Massoud suggested that his appointment to the post came following a codified deal with the president.

“You (Ghani) have got no right or power to fire me,” Massoud said at a press conference in Kabul.

Ghani orders committee to start work on selection of election commission members

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has instructed the selection committee which was formed to select new members for the election commissions of Afghanistan.

Deputy presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazvi told reporters that the committee was instructed to start with the approval of the election law by the President.

Murtazvi further added that the leaders of the government organized a meeting in ARG Presidential Palace today to discuss the financial and security arrangements for the elections.
