The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has handed over the list of 104.26 million voters to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to the electoral authority, the voters can confirm their registration and acquire details of their constituency on the mobile phones by sending an text message on 8300. In a statement, Nadra said that voters can contact their nearest display centre to have their voting constituency updated.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan rejected on Friday the tax amnesty scheme announced by the government and said that after coming to power his party would investigate those who would benefit from it. Speaking to journalists at the residence of Javed Junejo, a prominent citizen of Hyderabad, the PTI chief called for setting up of caretaker governments both at the Centre and in the provinces that were “truly neutral” in character.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is involved in a classic good cop, bad cop routine, with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz adopting an aggressive attitude towards the powers that be while the younger Sharif feigning a responsible politician. A well-placed source in the ruling party confirmed to The Express Tribune that the difference of opinion between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his brother does not affect the party’s policy line and “in fact, it is united on all issues”.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has hinted at not giving party ticket to former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for the upcoming general elections after he openly went against the present PML-N narrative and leadership.

Mr Nisar’s recent statement against the party leadership and his stance against the party line on the Panama Paper case verdict against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and criticism against the judiciary indicate that he has already lost a ‘sacred’ place in the party.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday that Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif is next in line for disqualification after the ouster of his brother and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The PTI chief said this while addressing party workers in Gujranwala as part of the party’s national membership campaign. He was on a one-day visit to the city where he would also make rounds of nine party camps and meet workers.

The Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability–Free and Fair Election Network (TDEA-FAFEN) launched Pakistan’s most comprehensive election information portal “Election Pakistan” in a ceremony here on Wednesday.

The purpose of developing such a unique and user-friendly election portal was to ensure availability of consolidated election-related information on a single forum.

Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani got 57 votes against Raja Zafarul Haq (of PML-N) and has been elected as chairman, said Presiding Officer Sardar Yaqoob Khan Nasar.
