ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Monday that provincial elections will be held across the country on April 20, 2020, the second time the date has been changed this year.

They were originally set to take place on Dec. 22, 2018, but IHEC announced in January that they would be postponed until November 2019, five months before the new date just announced.

“The election has been delayed for two years now,” commission member Hazim Redini told Kurdistan 24. 

Halbousi elected as new president of Iraqi Forces Alliance

The Iraqi Forces Alliance has elected Mohamed al-Halbousi, the Iraqi parliament speaker, as its president, and Falah Zaidan as the head of the parliamentary bloc.

Halbousi and Zaidan were elected during a meeting attended by more than 40 MPs of the Iraqi Forces Alliance, according to a statement by the alliance.

The National Axis Alliance, which was considered to be the largest Sunni bloc in the Iraqi parliament was divided in mid-May to two alliances; the Iraqi Forces Alliance, and the National Axis Alliance led by Khamis al-Khanjar, following internal differences.

La coalición admite 1.302 bajas civiles en bombardeos en Siria e Irak

La coalición internacional admitió hoy que al menos 1.302 civiles han muerto en bombardeos en Siria e Irak desde el inicio de su campaña contra el grupo terrorista Estado Islámico (EI) en agosto de 2014.
 
Entre agosto de 2014 y abril pasado, la coalición liderada por Estados Unidos realizó 34.502 bombardeos en Siria e Irak, según un informe publicado hoy.
 
No obstante, la coalición todavía investiga 111 informes de bajas civiles, incluyendo tres casos que han sido reabiertos por la aparición de nuevas informaciones.

Kurdistan’s parliament is to elect a new head of the Kurdistan region on Tuesday, amid opposition and boycott by opposition parties, which have already announced their rejection of the mechanisms adopted in re-activating the post.

PUK and Gorran Movement signed the agreements with the KDP to participate in the provincial government on condition of implementation of the agreements concluded to vote for the KDP candidate Nechirvan Barzani to fill the position.

Iraq rechaza convertirse en una zona de guerra o en plataforma para agresiones contra otros Estados, destacó el primer ministro del país árabe, Adel Abdul Mahdi, citado hoy en la prensa nacional.
 
Con ese motivo, Mahdi anunció que se analiza el envío de delegaciones hacia Estados Unidos e Irán a fin de aliviar crecientes tensiones.
 
'Muy pronto habrá delegaciones iraquíes en Teherán y Washington para impulsar la calma', subrayó.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdish lawmakers in the Iraqi Parliament have reportedly submitted a document requesting the formation of a committee to monitor the implementation of an article in the Iraqi Constitution related to contested regions between Erbil and Baghdad.

As tensions rise in Kirkuk, one of the disputed areas between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Government of Iraq, the leaders of Kurdish factions within the Iraqi government have called for the creation of a committee to monitor the application of Article 140, Iraqi media reported on Saturday.

Iraq court rules cancellation of some votes in May election was unconstitutional

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq’s top court upheld on Thursday a law mandating a nationwide recount of votes in a May parliamentary election but ruled that the cancellation of overseas, displaced, and Peshmerga ballots was unconstitutional.

Parliament, which had mandated the recount after a number of political parties alleged fraud, had canceled some results such as overseas and displaced votes by amending the election law this month.

PM Abadi says opposed to repeat of Iraq election

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Tuesday he opposed any repeat of the 12 May parliamentary election and warned that anyone who tried to sabotage the political process would be punished, after allegations of electoral fraud raised tensions.

Parliament has demanded a nationwide recount of votes, drawing calls for the election to be re-run. Abadi said only the Supreme Court could decide whether to re-run the vote, which was won by a bloc headed by Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Iraqi cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, whose coalition won the largest number of seats in the country’s recent parliamentary elections, has rejected calls for an election rerun, warning Iraqis about breaking out of a possible “civil war” just a day after a storage site in Baghdad, which housed ballot boxes, was purportedly torched ahead of a recount.

La comisión electoral de Irak ha anunciado este miércoles la anulación de los resultados de las parlamentarias celebradas el 12 de mayo en más de mil centros de votación debido a las irregularidades registradas en los mismos.

En su comunicado, recogido por el portal local de noticias Iraqi News, el organismo ha señalado que ha analizado 102 colegios electorales en diez provincias donde hubo denuncias por parte de los partidos políticos y ha confirmado que hubo violaciones del proceso.

El Parlamento de Irak ha aceptado este lunes rechazar los votos de los iraquíes que han abandonado el país y de los desplazados internos y ha exigido un recuento manual del 10 por ciento de las papeletas debido a las denuncias de fraude en las elecciones parlamentarias celebradas el pasado 12 de mayo.

Los votos anulados incluyen los de aquellos que se han marchado de Irak y los que se han desplazado de forma interna en todas las provincias excepto en Ninive, según ha informadola cadena de televisión kurda Rudaw.
