The General National Council’s (GNC) official spokesperson, Omar Hamaidan, confirmed at a press conference Tuesday that the GNC has been unable to reach agreement on the ‘constitutional amendment’ regarding the process by which the so called “Committee of Sixty” is chosen.
An official awareness camapign to promote public understanding about the country’s constitutional process is being organised by a coalition of civil society organisations under the leadership of the ‘Organisation for Justice and Peace’.

The United Nations mission in Libya has welcomed today’s decision by the General National Congress on the formation of the body that will be tasked with drafting the country’s new constitution.
The General National Congress decided to endorse election as the process by which the members of the Constituent Assembly will be chosen. Once formed, the Assembly will draft the constitution – the next phase of the country’s transition toward a modern democratic State, after decades of autocratic rule and the toppling of the regime of Muammar al-Qadhafi in 2011.
The Constitutional Commission is to be elected in a national vote, not appointed by the National General Congress.
