Countdown has begun for the presidential campaigns between Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai as they face-off in the second round of elections. Campaigning is scheduled to begin on Thursday May 22, 2014.

Both candidates have said that they will be traveling around Afghanistan further explaining their platforms to the people to gain supporters.

Dr. Abdullah’s team said that their campaign will not be limited to major cities; Dr. Ghani’s team said they will mobilize their campaign team to reach places far into the depths of Afghanistan such as villages.

“With the start of the presidential campaigns, our marketing will be very active and passionate” Syed Agha Fazil Soncharaqi, senior member of Dr. Abdullah’s team, said.

“Our mobile campaign teams are preparing to travel to remote areas and deliver our message to the people” Abdul Ali Muhammadi, member of Dr. Ahmadzai’s campaign, said.

Residents of Afghanistan have specific demands from both presidential candidates.

“Our request from the candidates is that they have programs that will awaken the patriotic emotion of the people” an 80-year-old street seller named Zia said.

Like Zia, a number of other residents ask the candidates to cater programs for the people of the country.

“Unemployment needs to be fought so people are employed,” Reza a local shopkeeper said.

Presidential campaigns will last for 21 days, with both candidates claiming to have new methods of introducing their platforms to the people.

The second Election Day is scheduled for June 14, 2014.
