Youth Making Majority Of Provincial Council Seats

The provincial councils results indicated that the youth constituted for the majority of successful candidates. According to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) majority of the voters in the first round of the elections were youth elaborating that both instances are due to people's enthusiasm for youth involvement in politics.
 
“Most of the candidates and voters were youth in this round of the elections and a good percentage of them have made their way to the provincial councils,” IEC Chief Noor Muhammad Noor said. "Three women from Kabul were able to achieve the highest number of votes."

Some of the youth candidates for the provincial council elections stated that they nominated themselves to tackle the challenges faced by the youth in the country.
 
“The idea was to take an initiative and improve the lives of the youth in need,” Khatera Ishaqzai, one of the three women who achieved the highest number of votes, said.
 
The candidates who have passed the preliminary results assert that they would closely oversee government actions.
 
“I could serve the youth by overseeing government activities,” Abdul Waly Wahidzai said.
 
People of Kabul and provinces have welcomed youth to the provincial council seats and have expressed their demands from them.
 
“The future depends on the youth; they should work for the development of the country,” Kabul resident Esmatullah said.
 
Helmand resident Janat gul also added to the sentiment.

“Youth is the force behind the movement of this country,” he said. “They have great potential to do things."
 
About 2,713 people--including 308 women-- nominated themselves for the provincial council elections. According to the election law, 458 seats, of which 96 are for women, are designated for provincial councils nationwide.
