Afghan youth party, Etelaf-e-Meli Nahj Naween of Afghanistan, on Friday at an event in Kabul announced their endorsement of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai for the June 14 runoff.

With only a couple weeks left before the historic vote that will determine President Hamid Karzai’s successor, candidates who lost in the first round, political figures, political parties and MPs have begun throwing their weight being Ashraf Ghani or his runoff rival, Abdullah Abdullah.

“We have decided that Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai can manage the country, so in this meeting we want to announce that Etelaf-e-Meli Nahj Naween of Afghanistan will support him,” said Nasrullah Mesbah, the head of the youth party.

Although unemployment was the chief concern of Etelaf-e-Meli Nahj Naween of Afghanistan, the group’s leaders said there were many other pressing issues facing Afghan youth that they hoped Ashraf Ghani would prioritize if elected.

“Dr. Ashraf Ghani will bring the same law for all people,” Ghani campaign representative Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi said at the even on Friday. "Peace and construction have an important role in Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s plans.”

Also on Friday, a number of Ulema members and female leaders announced their support for Ghani. The women, in particular, attributed their decision to the joining of Ahmad Zia Massoud, the first vice president of candidate Zalmai Rassoul in the first round, to Ashraf Ghani’s runoff campaign.

The women asked Ghani to ensure that in his government women’s role is "not symbolic” and that violence against women would be curtailed.
