Abdul Rahim Ayoubi, the leader of Hizb-e-Milate Mutahed, announced an endorsement of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai at a gathering in Kabul on Sunday.

Abdul Rahim Ayoubi, who is also a member the Lower House, also criticized Ghani's runoff rival, Abdullah Abdullah.

The endorsement comes at a critical time in the election process, as runoff campaigning peaks just two weeks before Election Day on June 14. And it joins a series of high-profile endorsements that Ghani has received since the end of the first round.

Memers of the Milate Mutahed party welcomed Ahmad Zia Massoud’s endorsement of Ghani as well. The party praised Ahmad Zia for avoiding ethnic politics.

“We are committed that all Afghanistan’s ethnicities and experts should be on the same political page, and we are committed to building the national economy, but if we work for each ethnicity, we will not go anywhere,” Ahmad Zia Massoud told the gathering on Sunday.

Ashraf Ghani told his supporters that he would focus on solving youth problems and improving the economy.

“I was the best beggar for my people while I was Minister of Finance, but I do not want to be a beggar, Afghanistan is not poor, but needs good management to become rich,” Ghani said.

Participants of the gathering said they would help monitor the runoff vote.
