Security Preparations For Runoff Begin

Security preparations for the presidential runoff have been tightened in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, and other cities throughout the country.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has committed to use all its capabilities to provide a secure runoff, but stressed that the public’s cooperation with the security forces will create for a secure election process.

MoI’s Spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said the ministry has sent more security forces to the eastern parts of the country and across the Durand Line.

“We have mostly focused on parts of the country that were under threats in the previous round because they may come under threats again this is based on our investigations and experience from the first round,” Sediqqi said. “Security for this round will be better and successful with the help and cooperation of the people.”

Meanwhile, Kabul’s residents are calling on to the Afghan security forces to be more active in providing security for runoff, promising to assist with the Afghan forces.

“People must work alongside the Afghan forces in the runoff to ensure a peaceful situation,” Kabul resident, Ahmad said. “Everyone should vote.”
