Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA) said on Wednesday government has failed to bring about electoral reforms.

"The National Unity Government (NUG) failed to bring about electoral reforms last year," said Ahmad Yusuf Rashid, Chief Executive Director of FEFA. He hoped that the government will not fail again this year.

The foundation urged leaders of the NUG to put aside their differences and work for electoral reforms.

The organization urged government to keep their political affiliations separate from the election council's selection committee.

Chief Executive Office of the NUG admits problems regarding electoral reforms, but said that government is striving to bring about the reforms and to convene a Loya Jirga.

"It is believed that electoral reforms and the implementation of the political deal [signed between leaders of the NUG] will politically affect a number of people ... However winners of the process will be the people of Afghanistan," said Hashmat Radfar, media advisor to the CEO Abdullah Abdullah.

Yusuf Nuristani recently resigned from his position as chief of the Independent Election Commission (IEC). Official sources say the future of officials of other election commissions will be cleared up in the near future and that the selection committee will start its work soon.
