Newly Elected Puntland Parliament Speaker Takes Office

The newly elected Puntland Parliament speaker Saed Hassan Shire has taken oath of office with the incoming Puntland president Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas and Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar, traditional leaders and civil society representative present on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

Former Parliament Speaker Abdirashid Mohamed Hirsi officially handed over the post to Shire who served as livestock and animal husbandry minister in the outgoing President, Abdirahman Mohamed Farole's government.

Speaking at the event held at Puntland Parliament building in the state capital of Garowe, Hirsi said that he has transferred big responsibility which requires broad-based consultation to the elected parliament speaker.

Shortly after taking oath of office, Shire praised former speaker for his achievements, noting that he will work on the huge tasks ahead for Puntland parliament.

Addressing the event participants, President-elect Abdiweli Gaas expressed his delight over the transfer of office between former speaker and the new parliament speaker and hoped easy burden for the parliamentarians.

The outgoing Puntland President, Abdirahman Farole is expected to handover presidential office to Abdiweli Gaas in the coming days following the end of Puntland parliamentary and presidential elections.
