The Director of the Directorate of Immigration & Naturalization General Abdullahi Gafow publicized that the national bio-metric identity cards and passports are still being issued in Mogadishu.

Speaking at the National Security Conference in Mogadishu, General Gafow declared that the Somali passport has ‘no value’ if the owner of the passport has not got a national identity card.

Despite the fact that the Somali Federal Parliament banned the issuance of the ID’s and passports earlier this month, they are still being issued to the public under the authority of the Benadir regional administration.

General Gafow described that there have been numerous complaints from the public coming from different parts of Somalia to order the Identification documents.

Furthermore, the Minister National Security Abdikarim Hussein Guled said that it is a requirement for all Somali citizens living in all areas of the country to create valid Identity cards so that they can cast their vote in the 2016 democratic elections electing the new head of state.
