The results of a recent poll for the main municipalities in the country, indicate that the current majority is still strong, while the opposition continues with the same results.
Meanwhile, 21,2% of respondents said that they have not decided who to vote.
The poll for the June 21 local government elections, was carried out by IPR, an Italian based research institute. With the results collected in the 2009 and 2013 election polls, this institute was very close to the official result.
In the Municipality of Tirana, 1007 respondents were asked, 1001 in Durres and 1003 in Skader. The survey took place from 7 to 11 May and the margin of error is +/-3.2%.
In Tirana, the former minister of Social Welfare, Erion Veliaj, from the left wing coalition is ahead against his rival, Halim Kosovo, former minister of Health. According to IPR survey, if elections are held today in the large municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj receives 45,5% of the votes, Halim Kosovo receives 36,5%, former Democratic Party official and former head of the Albanian Power Corporation, Gjergj Bojaxhi 12,5% of the votes and others will receive 5,5% of the votes.
In Durres, Vangjush Dako who runs for the third time, has a slight advantage and the race is expected to be strong with his rival from the Democratic Party, Grida Duma, namely 51% and 49%.
In Skader, the DP candidate, Voltana Ademi leads. IPR data indicate that in the large municipality of Skader, Keti Bazhdari receives 40% of the votes while Voltana Ademi receives 60% of the votes.
The results indicate that in terms of votes, the Socialist Party has a slight drop, the Democratic Party continues with the same result, while SMI is constant even in these elections.
IPR notes: The left wing coalition leads in Tirana with 60% of the votes, thus not reflecting the cost for the 20 months of the government in office.
Meanwhile, the right wing must heal the wounds of the 2013 results, as it continues to be at a rate of 35,5%.
Head of IPR, Antonio Noto, says that the survey has been adapted to the new territorial division. “The survey in the three cities has been carried out bearing in mind the fact that the law has changed and many communes have become part of municipalities. Therefore, the survey has also included the former communes which are part of Tirana today”.
