Somalia: New Hirshabelle President Sworn to Office After Overwhelming Election

Newly elected President of HirShabelle regional state of Somalia President Ali Abdullahi Osoble has been sworn to office.

Mr. Osoble who took the oath in front of Somali chief justice received 61 votes while his close contender Mohamed Abdi Waare received 36 votes.

A total of 97 votes plus one spoilt vote thus 98 was casted.

The runner up Mohamed Abdi Waare has congratulated the new regional state leader and promised to closely work with him.

The leader of Galmudug state Abdikarim Guled and federal affairs minister Abdirahman Odowa who were both present at the voting hall have also congratulated the new HirShabelle leader and vowed to provide necessary support in their capacity to move the political development forward.

HirShabelle state formation process was one of the longest and most controversial federal implementation processes in Somalia.

The achievement is one step forward towards long awaited Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Somalia.
