The most important goal in the upcoming general election is to prevent Croat leader Dragan Covic from once again being a member of the tripartite Presidency, member of the Civic Alliance (GS) political council, Emir Suljagic, told N1.

Suljagic was a Bosniak Presidency member candidate in the 2014 general election, representing the Democratic Front (DF), who’se leader, Zeljko Komsic, is now running for the Croat Presidency member position.

The Presidency is composed of three members representing Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs.

Suljagic and his party colleague, Reuf Bajrovic, had split from the DF due to clashes with Komsic, and the two then formed the GS.

The DF and the GS have, however, now formed a coalition.

“There is one issue before us – should the people and the state pay for our political spats, or should we overcome our differences and unite to oppose what is dangerous for this country. That is the Dodik – Covic alliance,” Suljagic said, referring to Covic’s announced coalition with the President of the Serb-dominated semi autonomous Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik.

Dodik has been advocating for the RS to secede from Bosnia, while Covic has been pushing for the establishment of a third, Croat majority entity.

“I think there is one imperative, which is for Covic to not repeat a mandate in the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is saying that Bosnia will never be a citizens’ country, and that one persons’ vote is more worth than the vote of another person," Suljagic said, adding that this goes against the concept of civilization.

As for Dodik, Suljagic said that he is “leading in the dehumanization of others and those who are different”, referring to the frequent nationalist statements coming from the Bosnian Serb leader.
