AMMAN — The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Wednesday started receiving applications for accreditation for both local and international journalists and observers to monitor the September 20 parliamentary elections, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. IEC Spokesperson Jihad Momani said applications can be submitted online (www.iec.jo).

For foreign journalists, Momani said they must work for media outlets accredited to work in Jordan. The IEC said international observers have from August 3 to August 30 to apply, while local journalists can apply between August 3 and September 19.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Dutch embassy launch activities on elections

AMMAN — The Dutch embassy and the German Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) on Wednesday launched their cooperation on activities in preparation for the parliamentary elections.

With support from the embassy, FES will organise a series of election-themed community events around the Kingdom, according to a statement released by the foundation.

At the heart of these events will be the staging of the play “Ahlan Intikhabat!” by the Maani Theatre Group. Originally commissioned by FES in 2015, the play has been rewritten to include the recent changes in the Elections Law.

The theatre performances will be followed by discussion sessions where constituents can ask candidates about their programmes and inquire about the new law and its procedures. The events will take place in the period between the official announcement of the candidates and the Eid Al Adha holidays. More details are available on www.fes-jordan.org.
