Jakarta (ANTARA) - Polling Station (TPS) No 1 Head in Adodo Molu Village, Tanimbar Islands District, Maluku, Selvianus Itranbey died of exhaustion while attending his region's Apr 22 plenary meeting on ballot recapitulation following simultaneous legislative and presidential elections. With Itranbey falling victim to exhaustion and overwork, the death toll nationwide reached 92.

Re-voting on Bintan added three polling stations

The number of polling stations (TPS) in re-voting in Bintan district, Riau Islands province is increased to four  from three previously.

Chairman of the Bintan District Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu)   Febriadinata, in Bintan, Sunday, said the initial voting was at TPS 02 Ekang Village Anculai, District Teluk Bintan, and the number has been raised by three in  Kijang Kota Sub-District, East Bintan District.

Jokowi: World leaders congratulate me

In a subtle rebuke to his rival’s repeated victory declaration, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Thursday evening that more than 13 state leaders had congratulated “all Indonesians, as well as Jokowi and Ma’ruf” for the success of the general election on April 17.

He was referring to his running mate Ma’ruf Amin.

Elections delayed in some areas of Jayapura

Voting in several regions of Jayapura, Papua have been delayed owing to a lack of materials. 

“Besides in Abepura district, voting has been delayed in three subdistricts in South Jayapura district,” Papua General Elections Commission (KPU) head Theodorus Kossay said in Jayapura on Wednesday as quoted by Antara. 

Election materials such as ballots and ballot boxes have been sent to KPU Jayapura but have yet to be distributed to the polling stations in the aforementioned areas.

Election could be delayed for thousands of voters in Banggai

The 2019 general election is likely to be postponed in Banggai regency, Central Sulawesi, due to a delay in the distribution of ballots.

Banggai regency was among the regions that were rocked by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake on April 12.

It was reported earlier that nine districts in the regency, including Luwuk, North Luwuk, South Luwuk, East Luwuk, West Luwuk, Batui, West Toili and Moilong, had not received their assigned quota of ballots by Wednesday.

The government will consider pardoning the remaining members of the East Indonesia Mujahiddin (MIT) terrorist group if they surrender to security officers, an official said on Thursday.

"We will offer them a pardon once they leave their hideouts. They are Indonesian citizens after all," Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said on Thursday.

Govt backs TNI's role in anti-terror law

The government is insisting on including the role of the Indonesian Military (TNI) in the revision of the Terrorism Law in its efforts to safeguard the country against the threat of terrorism, a minister said on Wednesday.

Indonesia should not rely only on the National Police's anti-terrorist squad Densus 88 amid the rising global threat of terrorism, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said. The government is considering whether to combine the force with the TNI to strengthen security measures.

EU, Indonesia launch free trade talks

The EU’s 28 member states agreed on Monday to launch free trade talks with Indonesia, despite growing public doubts in Europe about two major transatlantic deals.

The deal with Indonesia will build on pacts with other Asian powers such as Singapore and Vietnam.

“The EU and Indonesia represent a huge market of 750 million consumers. These negotiations are key to unleash synergies between our economies,” said EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstroem and Indonesian Trade Minister Tom Lembong in a joint statement.
