President Hassan Sheikh: Terminate policies in opposition to the government

President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, called for the termination of policies against the Federal government and face together in the fight opposed to Al-Shabaab movement.

Mr Hassan Sheikh Mohamud returned to the country yesterday and called for the cessation following his saying that it was a obligation and necessitation for the citizens to be alongside each other in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

A meeting in support of the creation of a new South Western State compromising of the Bay , Bakool and Lower Shabelle regions was held in Mogadishu. It involved lawmakers, politicians and other civil society groups.

A previous prime minister of the Transitional Government, Ali Mohamed Gedi , was one of the leaders who participated in the meeting; he supported the construction of the three-regional government , and said that the government will make it easier for the state and will retain overall authority of the country.

Political infighting tests cohesion of Somaliland parliament

What started out as a healthy political debate over changes to the Somaliland region's House of Representatives has turned into a protracted, antagonistic dispute between opposing sides, causing a suspension of parliament activity until next Sunday (February 16th).

The row started January 27th when the House passed a bill that made changes to the parliament's bylaws for the first time since 2005.

Somalia Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed today opened a two-day Cabinet conference at Villa Hargaysa, centring on the priorities, implementation and delivery of the government's 2014 Program.

The two-day working session is being attended by His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, H.E. Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed, H.E. Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman and all Cabinet ministers.

Opening the conference, the Prime Minister said: "As a country and government we face immense challenges that we must rise to and overcome.

Memebers of the Somali federal Government is set to approve the newly appointed cabinet by H.E Abdiwali Sheikh Ahmed who is the new prime minister of Somalia.

the approval is currently underway and the prime minister needs atleast 139 Mps to support the new cabinet for approval.

"it will not be over today as the country has no working cabinet and the posibility of approving them is high" said mohamed Mohamud Sesey, a federal Mp during a program aired live by Shabelle radio.

The Somali federal government and Somaliland regional administration concluded their latest round of talks in Istanbul Sunday (January 19th), signing an agreement to hold another meeting in 90 days and to form a secretariat in Istanbul that will oversee the ongoing negotiations.

The agreement outlines the agenda for future talks, including the peaceful resolution of any and all future disagreements through dialogue, according to a communique signed by Somali Minister of Interior and National Security Abdikarim Hussein Guled and Somaliland Foreign Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis.

The newly elected Puntland Parliament speaker Saed Hassan Shire has taken oath of office with the incoming Puntland president Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas and Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar, traditional leaders and civil society representative present on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

 Somali federal parliamentarians have warned the newly appointed Prime Minister Dr. Abdiwali Sheikh not to include former ministers who were among the failed cabinet in his plans to name his own new cabinet.

"Some of the former cabinet members told us that they can no longer hold the responsibility anymore and proposed the motion against the former premier (Shirdon), why are they coming back to us and asking us for posts?" said Mp's in a joint voice.

Abdi Farah Shirdon, prime minister of the Horn of Africa nation for just over a year, lost a confidence vote in parliament after he resisted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's demand that he resign. Qatari delegation survives Somalia car bomb

Mogadishu: A car bomb hit a convoy of cars carrying Qatari officials through the centre of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Sunday, killing at least eight Somalis, officials said.

The visiting delegation of Qataris, who were travelling in the Somali interior minister’s bullet-proof vehicle, were “safe”, a security officer said, without going into further detail. The minister was not in the car at the time.
