JTA — In April 2014, nearly 60 percent of Israel’s 1.7 million Arab citizens said they felt “part of the state and its problems.” The 11 months that followed saw the nationalistically motivated murders of four teenagers — three Jewish and one Arab — a two-month war in the Gaza Strip, a wave of terror in Jerusalem and a tense election campaign.

By March 2015, the month of the election, only 28 percent of Arab-Israelis felt part of the country and its problems.

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has put the final touches on its timeline to form a new government, as the country’s top election body released the final results of the Nov. 1 snap elections, confirming the AKP had regained its parliamentary majority.

Accordingly, members of the national assembly will take their oaths on Nov. 17 and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will commission Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu to form the new government on the same day.

El Líbano amaneció hoy en un día de luto nacional tras el atentado que sacudió ayer un feudo del grupo chií Hizbulá en el sur de Beirut y que causó al menos 43 muertos y 239 heridos, según los últimos datos del Ministerio de Sanidad.

Las banderas ondean a media asta en las administraciones y edificios públicos, mientras que escuelas, universidades e institutos técnicos están cerrados tras una decisión tomada en ese sentido por el ministro de Educación, Elias Bu Saab.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party swept the first phase of the local government election in eight districts of Sindh by winning about 70 per cent of the over 3,500 seats, it emerged on Tuesday.

On Oct 31, the LG elections were held for a total of 3,502 seats of chairman, vice chairman, district and general councillors in Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore and Kambar-Shahdadkot districts.

1.48m to vote in municipal polls

JEDDAH: Over 1.48 million men and women will vote in the Dec. 12 municipal council elections this year, according to the General Committee for the Municipal Council Elections.
Judai Al-Qahtani, head of the committee, said there would be over 1.35 million men and 130,637 women voters, according to a report in an online publication recently.
Al-Qahtani said there would be 548,945 new men and women voters, with men making up 418,380. There were 277,761 men and women found ineligible, which included 51,230 soldiers. Military personnel are not allowed to vote.

Aoun Vows 'Strong Measures' over Electoral Law, Warns of 'Dangerous' Legislative Session

Change and Reform bloc chief MP Michel Aoun stressed Tuesday that the electoral law must be put on the agenda of the upcoming legislative session, warning that his bloc will take “strong and decisive measures” Wednesday over the issue.

“The agenda is not limited to financial legislation, contrary to the agreement that we made when we discussed the legislation of necessity,” said Aoun after the bloc's weekly meeting, referring to the legislative session that will be held on Thursday and Friday.

PM calls for presidential system based on separation of powers

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu called on Tuesday for the introduction of an executive presidential system based on a balanced separation of powers, saying the current system created tensions between the president and prime minister.

In a live interview with state broadcaster Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), Davutoğlu said the government could discuss a new constitution and the "fight against terrorism" with opposition parties.

HDP to continue with Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ as co-chairs

The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) will hold its ordinary congress on Jan. 17, 2016, when delegates will vote for a single list of party administrators in which present Co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ will be the only candidates for chairpersons of the party, a daily reported on Tuesday.

According to a story in Milliyet, Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ will continue to serve as co-chairs despite a loss of nearly 1 million votes in the Nov. 1 snap election.
