The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued detailed verdict in petitions against Election Act 2017 that removed Nawaz Sharif as  head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Written by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, the 51-page judgment comes days after Nawaz Sharif  passed the mantle of his party on his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab.

ECP issues Code of Conduct for Senate polls

In order to ensure free and fair polling in the Senate elections tomorrow (Saturday), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a code of conduct on Friday, violation of which will lead to a fine of up to Rs100,000 and a jail term of up to two years.

According to the code of conduct, no one would be allowed to carry mobile phones in the polling stations i.e. assembly buildings, while the assembly members would only be allowed inside if they will be carrying their secretariat cards.

Kurdish factions to continue to meet with Iraqi President on Saturday

Muthana Amin, the head of the KIU faction in parliament, told Rudaw that the Kurdish blocs’ meetings with President Masum will continue and "we will be in touch with the Kurdistan government and relevant parties."

He added they will have another meeting on Saturday to decide whether or not attend the parliament to pass the budget bill.

Erbil and Baghdad coming to an agreement should resolve the budget dispute, according to Amin.

Le groupe parlementaire d’Afek Tounes à l’Assembée des représentants du peuple (ARP), a décidé d’interjeter un appel auprès du tribunal administratif afin de suspendre la décision de l’Instance de Vérité et Dignité (IVD) de prolonger son mandat jusqu’à fin 2018 au lieu de juin prochain.

Pour le bloc parlementaire d’Afek Tounes, les articles 49 et 59 de la Constitution ainsi que l’article 18 de la loi de la justice transitionnelle énoncent que cette décision relève de la compétence de l’ARP.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister says ‘there will be no snap elections’

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ has denied rumors the government would call a snap election, saying that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) always favors polls to take place on their planned dates.

Elections in Turkey will be held on time. There will be no snap elections; there will be elections held on time,” Bozdağ told reporters after a meeting in Ankara on March 1.

Turkey is scheduled to hold local eletions in March 2019 and parliamentary and presidential elections in November 2019.

Kataeb decides not to ally with LF in elections

The opposition Kataeb Party has decided not to ally with the Lebanese Forces in the upcoming parliamentary elections seeing as the LF is part of the ruling coalition, a media report said.

"Kataeb has informed all parties concerned, topped by the LF, that its alliances will be political and based on clear stances against the policies and parties of the ruling class," a source informed on contacts between Christian parties told al-Joumhouria daily in remarks published Thursday.

The Free Patriotic Movement and the al-Mustaqbal Movement will be on the same electoral list in the Bsharri-Zgharta-Koura-Batroun electoral district, FPM sources have said.

“It is not possible for us to ally with al-Marada Movement if it will back Najib Miqati in Akkar or Tripoli and the Lebanese Forces will not get our votes if it will back Ashraf Rifi,” the sources told the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper in remarks published Thursday.

“There are standards that do not allow us to deal with each district separately,” the sources added.

Al-Mahdi to return to Sudan after opposition meetings

Opposition party calls to release its ill leader

The opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCoP) has called to release its leader Omer al-Digair who is detained since about two months ago, pointing he has been facing a critical health situation.

Provincial Elections set for December

The Iraqi Council of Ministers has reportedly set the 22nd December 2018 as the date for the provincial elections to be held in Iraq.

Previously, the provincial elections were scheduled for before the national elections; however, the fight against the IS as well as the ongoing displacement crisis prevented these from being held earlier.

The vote was originally scheduled to be held on the 16th September 2017, but was later postponed with reports suggesting that they would be held in conjunction with the national elections set for May of this year.
