Presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Sunday promised to build an inclusive government that would empower each of Afghanistan's ethnic groups.

Speaking to supporters at the Loya Jirga tent in Kabul, Ashraf Ghani's announcement about the ethnic make-up of his would-be administration touched on historically one of the most sensitive issues in Afghan politics.

Ashraf Ghani himself is Pashtun and his First Vice President, Abdul Rashid Dostum, is Uzbek.

During his speech, Ashraf Ghani also discussed his policy priorities more broadly and said that improving the state of human rights in Afghanistan, particularly those of women, would be a major focus of his government.

Dr. Ahmadzai also committed to seriously work on issues of peace, economic development, employment for youth and national unity.

He praised the sacrifices of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and spoke confidently about their ability to serve the country's best interests in the coming years.

"The Army forces, Police and NDS soldiers will be protectors of Afghanistan's honor and sovereignty and they will serve our land with professionalism and religious purity," he said.

He also cautioned those gathered against engaging in any manipulation or fraud during the elections.

On Sunday, the Islamic Nation's Movement of Afghanistan, or Hizb-e-Harakate Islami-ye Melat-e Afghanistan, headed by Sayed Mohammad Hadi Hadi, announced its support for Ashraf Ghani's Presidential bid.
