Twenty four out of 390 polling centers that were previously announced to be close on the elections day will be open, the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA) said on Sunday.

In the past few days, the Ministry has launched some operations across the country to clear the threatened areas from insurgency ahead of elections on April 5.

The MoIA spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said the ministry is doing its best to keep open some other polling centers as well and to provide security for the on-going Presidential campaign season.

He says Aghan police forces have provided security for over 200 electoral gatherings all over Afghanistan during the past week.

"After launching various operations for providing security for the election, 24 other polling centers will be open. Sixteen of the centers are located in Sar-e-Pul province and eight are in Laghman province, and the ministry will make more efforts," he said.

The MoIA announced that eight of twelve local security officials who were involved in the Presidential candidates campaigns have been dismissed after investigations. Investigations into four other security officials have been launched.

Before this, the MoIA had warned Afghan security officials that they cannot campaign for any candidates.

The Police chief of Angel District in Herat, police chief of Moqor District in Badghis, police chief of Yusuf Khil District in Paktika, a commander of Afghan Local Police in Darqad District in Takhar, a local commander in Bamyan, a police officer of Shortipa District in Balkh, and head of Traffic Department of Daykundi were involved in the candidates campaigns and were dismissed, according to MoIA.

The MoIA has asked all Presidential candidates to inform the ministry before visiting provinces in regard to providing their security. And the ministry also urged all candidates to let the ministry know about their provincial offices' key officials by sending a list.
