In a gathering held on Wednesday, residents of Kabul's Deh Sabz district, announced their support for the candidacy of Abdullah Abdullah in the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled to take place on April 5, 2014.

Addressing the gathering, Abdullah argued that if the Mujahideen were part of the current political system, the security scenario of Afghanistan would have been much better and there would have been no need for the presence of international forces in the country.

“If the current government had focused on Mujahideen and valued the Mujahideen who supported this government, the situation today would have been totally different; there would not have been need for foreign troops,” Abdullah said.

Abdullah’s first and second vice presidents also mounted criticisms on the government and claimed that the insecurity in the country is a result of the exclusion of Mujahideen from the government.

The participants in the gathering demanded Abdullah to seriously focus on the needs of the people and the country, upon success in the elections.

“I came to know what Abdullah says and what he pledges to before I cast my vote for him,” a Deh Sabz resident Mashal said.

“You and your families must vote in the elections," Kabul MP Allah Gul Mujahid said. "Casting vote in the election is a form of Jihad. I will cast my vote as well."

Abdullah has also pledged to extend efforts for the establishment of New Kabul City.
