With presidential campaigns entering their final stretch just weeks before the April vote, violent attacks on campaign workers have increased, especially on Abdullah Abdullah's team.

Abdullah's campaign has reported nine of targeted attacks since the start of the campaign season in February, far more than any of the other candidates.

The first attack took place in Herat, where two of Abdullah's employees were killed. The second came when Abdullah's own entourage was attacked by Taliban insurgents in Surobi District while traveling on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway. Soon after, unknown gunmen shot down a member of Abdullah's team in Sar-e-Pul Province. Two different incidents in Ghazni and Faryab provinces - resulting in the deaths of 3 employees - then followed.

Most recently, an attack took place in Laghman that targeted Abdullah's team as well as members of presidential candidate Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayaf's campaign.

Abdullah's staff expressed frustration with security officials' lack of follow-up to the attacks.

"So far, after all these attacks and reports that have made with high ranking and different levels of security institutions, we have not received an investigation report from the government to any of our campaign offices," Abdullah campaign team spokesman Mujeebul Rahman Rahimi said.
