KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a civil petition which challenged the Sindh High Court’s verdict against delimitation of constituencies in the province, Express News reported.

The petition was filed by the Sindh Government in the Karachi Registry of the apex court, appealing against the high court’s decision to nullify the delimitation process for the Local Government (LG) elections.

“The court has maintained the high court’s decision and it has been said clearly that delimitation was not done in a lawful manner,” Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Barrister Farogh Naseem stated, while speaking to media in Karachi.

Naseem said that delimitation needs to be done by a neutral body and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) fulfils that criteria.

During today’s hearing regarding the delimitation process, the Supreme Court ordered the ECP to announce new election schedule by November 15.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, also stated that the ECP should complete all legislation with regards to new delimitation within the next 45 days.
