SHARJAH: People of Afghanistan are undergoing a groundbreaking electoral exercise: the presidential election. Expats from Afghanistan in the UAE are excited about the result and the prospects the future president holds for the country.

Women from Afghanistan eagerly await a good result for the best future of the nation.

Dr Arzo Abed from Afghanistan shows her excitement for the election. She is fully confident and satisfied with the way the polls are being conducted. About the candidates she said that whom we cast our vote for is a confidential matter but among all of them, Abdullah Abdullah, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Zalmai Rassoul are the best and all are well educated.

She says over the last ten years Afghanistan has shown major progress and “this presidential election will bring more peace and a bright future for us.

“A long-term war destroyed everything but the people were brave and courageous, they did not lose hope and they emerged successfully from the tough situation and got everything back,” she explains.

According to her, the situation is different now. “People are highly educated and are achievers in many fields, such as education, health, sports, science and technology,  even in the field of security, everything is improving nowadays. Women are working in every field and they are fully supported by the male community and also by the government.

“All these changes only came because of the government and this is the only reason we are participating in the election. Our people gave many sacrifices and now we are seeing the election will bring the positive changes and progress for our new generation and Afghanistan will rise high in every field.

“We have been marching towards progress for the past ten years. As I worked as a specialist for many years, in the Capital and in many provinces of Afghanistan, the security situation is improving nowadays. In very rare cases we face some deterrence from some people,” she adds.

She explains, “Security is the only reason I am here now in the UAE as it is an Islamic country and welcoming to foreign investors as well.”

Shereen Naz, a teacher for the last 20 years, explains her view about the election. “It will be a great achievement in our country’s history and will bring very positive and valuable results for us in the future.

“For the last many years we proved to the world that we want peace and for the purpose we gave a lot of sacrifices. Now the time will come when they will accept us as a strong and peaceful nation,” she remarks.

“The last government has dealt with many issues very intelligently and conditions are better now. We wish and pray for more progress from the new government.

“As a woman I am satisfied with this election and am fully supporting the people who are participating in the election.”
