For the first time ever, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) published election related information to their website.

Chairman of the IEC, Secretariat Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail, said that the IEC made the decision of publishing the information to the public in respect to their strong will for partaking on Election Day.

“The plans, decisions and results will be broadcasted by the IEC via online,” Amarkhail said. “This will allow the people to know more about their votes. We will not hide anything from the people that is our decision.”

Publishing information about the election is something new; it has never happened before. This decision is welcomed by all monitoring organizations, calling it an effective way of providing transparency.

“It is the first time that election related information is being published publically by the IEC,” Spokesman of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA), Mohammad Fahim Naeemi, said. “Actually, this decision will enhance the beliefs of the people about the commission.”

Twenty year old Kabul resident, Fatima, told TOLOnews that she supports IEC’s judgment in public access to election information.

“Awareness about the election is a good move,” she said. “I expect to receive more awareness about the elections. After all, this is something our future depends on.”

It is said that IEC’s choice in publishing election information will encourage people to take part in future elections.
