KABUL (Pajhwok): The vote audit process was resumed again on Thursday after 48 hours of suspension for training representatives of the presidential candidates and election observers, a source in the Independent Election Commission (IEC) confided to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Audit process was suspended last Tuesday due to some irregularities and mismanagement in the IEC office.

But IEC Spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor on Wednesday linked the suspension to disagreement between the teams of the presidential candidates over some issues pertaining to audit.

Noor said that disagreement over some technical parts of the audit process has now been resolved between the two teams and the recount process was started again today morning.

The IEC on Wednesday also linked the suspension to training some newly added election observers to accelerate the vote audit process.

The commission had then said that there were 23,000 ballot boxes and it would take three to four weeks to audit them all.

On July 19, the recount was temporarily stopped due to misunderstandings between the two presidential candidates, but resumed within 24 hours.
