Two members of the Afghan Electoral Reform Commission on Saturday boycotted the body claiming it was working more for the interests of political parties.

The protesters argued that a plan outside national interest was already imposed on the 12-member commission.

“It should have been a national commission but unfortunately it has been turned out as a multi-party agenda,” said Kawwon Kakar, one of the protesting members. “The parties with their representatives in the commission tried to impose their plan there.”

The boycotting comes on the day when the commission was set to release its short-term plan and which failed to take place.

The two protesting members urged the government to review the current members of the commission.

“We want review in the composition of the commission so that it could reflect the opinion of majority of the people,” said Kakar.

When reached, officials at the leadership of the commission declined to make comment
