Umno polls: Nomination paper submission smooth across nation

KUALA LUMPUR: The process of submitting the nomination papers for the 2013 Umno election nationwide was running smoothly as of 10am Saturday.

The process took place at most of the respective state Umno offices except for the Langkawi division which was given an exemption to carry out the process at their own place due to logistical problems. 

In SABAH, the supporters and representatives turned up as early as 8am at the state Umno headquarters to submit their nomination forms.

PETALING JAYA: When the Kuala Besut by-election was held in July within weeks of GE13, it confirmed what many media observers suspected ... the Malaysian public is down with election fatigue.

Conversely though, in the aftermath of the closely-fought general elections, parties within the two major coalitions, Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat, are now firmly focused on preparing for internal elections.

And the secondary business of running government of course.

PETALING JAYA: The political temperature is set to rise as the 100-day countdown begins for four major political parties ending the year with heated elections.

Umno and MCA, the Barisan Nasional’s two largest component parties are set to hold their party elections on Oct 19 and Dec 21 respectively.

For the Opposition, the DAP will be conducting its election for office bearers on Sept 29 while PAS will elect its office bearers on Nov 22.

El líder del opositor Pacto Popular (PP), Anwar Ibrahim, ha convocado una gran manifestación para el próximo miércoles en Kuala Lumpur para denunciar el fraude que supuestamente se cometió en las elecciones legislativas celebradas el pasado domingo en Malasia, que dieron la victoria al gobernante Frente Nacional (FN).

 

   "Debemos tener el derecho a expresarnos adecuadamente en los espacios públicos --como los estadios-- y en sus alrededores", ha dicho el líder opositor, en declaraciones recogidas por la cadena británica BBC.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysians must ensure the Barisan Nasional (BN) is returned to power with a more than a two-thirds majority in parliament in Sunday's general election to enable the government to be in a strong position to govern the nation, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

The former prime minister said BN needed a resounding victory to facilitate coalition to implement all the policies that have been planned for the people's well-being and the nation's prosperity.

 Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Barisan Nasional election candidate list is final and no more changes will be allowed.

He urged all component parties to throw their support for the candidates selected by the party leaders. He said he understands their frustration but urged them not to do anything rash.

 El primer ministro de Malasia, Najib Razak, ha anunciado la disolución del Parlamento para celebrar elecciones generales de forma anticipada el próximo 27 de abril.

   "El rey ha aceptado mi petición de disolver el Parlamento el 3 de abril", ha dicho desde la capital administrativa, Putrajaya, en un discurso transmitido por la televisión pública.

   El primer ministro ha adelantado que el país asiático celebrará las elecciones generales el próximo 27 de abril, tras una campaña electoral de dos semanas.

El primer ministro de Malasia, Najib Razak, ha defendido este martes desde la Franja de Gaza "la lucha del pueblo palestino", durante una visita que no ha gustado ni al Gobierno israelí ni a la Autoridad Palestina, que controla Cisjordania.

   Najib entró en la zona controlada por Hamás desde la frontera que comunica la Franja con Egipto acompañado por varios de sus ministros. Se trata de la segunda visita de un líder internacional en pocos meses, tras la del emir qatarí, Hamad bin Jalifa al Thani.

Those living in south Thailand, Singapore, Brunei and Kalimantan not entitled to postal voting

Malaysians living in south Thailand, Singapore, Brunei and in Kalimantan, Indonesia will have to return home to vote in the 13th general election, the Election Commission (EC) said.

EC secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria said they were not entitled to the postal voting facilities for Malaysians living abroad. For south Thailand, those living in the Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla and Satun provinces would be affected.

EC to appoint observers from Asean for 13th General Election

The Election Commission (EC) will appoint observers from several Asean countries to monitor the coming general election, said EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

The EC, through a selected panel set up on the advice of Wisma Putra, was expected to appoint observers from Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand, apart from several observers from the Asean secretariat itself, he said.

It is now almost three years since Najib Abdul Razak took over from Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as prime minister.

He has performed a slew of legislative reforms, set out major economic and education plans but has not yet taken the step to call for Malaysia's 13th general election.

Following the timeframe the constitution sets out, Najib has the autonomy to call elections before April 21, after which the Elections Commission has the prerogative and must call elections within 60 days.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday called on the people to give their full mandate to the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for another five-year term to secure a better future for themselves and the country.

He said this was because the BN government had varied experience in administering the country since 55 years ago compared to the opposition pact which had no basic understanding in charting a good direction for the country.
