Sans surprise, Nabil Benabdellah rempile à la tête du PPS. Unique candidat à sa succession après le retrait de ses challengers, le secrétaire général a été réélu pour un deuxième mandat avec 861 voix sur 885 votants.

Presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Tuesday traveled to Balkh for one of the last stops on the campaign trail before the June 14 runoff election. He told local supporters his priority in office would be the restoration of lasting peace and security and rule of law in Afghanistan. 
 
Ashraf Ghani, a former World Bank economist, also focused a great deal of time on his bread-and-butter subject - the national economy. He promised practical, localized programs that would bring dramatic changes to everyday lives.

Noor Mohammad Noor, spokesman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), on Tuesday reported that despite cooperation with the government and civil society groups, the election commission has not met its needs for female staffers to place at polling stations around the country for the runoff vote in two weeks. 
 
Mr. Noor said that the IEC wants at least 9,000 female staffers at polling sites nationwide, but that issues surrounding literacy and traditional customs have made recruiting local women extremely difficult. 
 

The Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA), one of Afghanistan’s largest election monitoring organizations, has accused the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) of negligence in its investigations of electoral fraud during the first round of this year’s presidential election.

Hashim Djojohadikusumo, deputy chairman of the Gerindra Party’s patron board, said his party had dropped a program of ‘purification of religious teachings’ in its ‘Manifesto of Struggle, following a number of criticisms that the party carries a fundamentalist view toward religions and diversity of beliefs.

“We have erased the sentence from our manifesto, because we based our party principle on Pancasila. We will uphold the law if there is discrimination against any ethnic, religion or race,” he said as quoted bytempo.co on Monday.

Whatever the numbers are that are being broadcast about voter turnout percentages in the current presidential elections, one must bear in mind that the number of people going to the polls was very modest and that a carrot and stick was used to motivate people to vote. It took quite a bit of effort to get people to the polls.

The Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) has said final results of Egypt’s recent elections will be announced at 7pm on Tuesday.

Preliminary results have indicated a landslide victory for former defence minister Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi over his Nasserist opponent, Hamdeen Sabahy. State-owned Al-Ahram’s preliminary results show that Al-Sisi won 96.71% of the vote, with Sabahy claiming just 3.286%.

Al-Sisi was hotly tipped to win the two-man race, on the back of popular support gained after he announced the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

Le mouvement Ennahdha a appelé à l’organisation simultanée des élections en cas de désaccord sur l’organisation des élections législatives en premier.

Mohsen Marzouk, leader au sein de Nidaa Tounes, était l'invité de Midi Show de ce lundi 2 juin 2014 pour revenir sur le dernier différend qui oppose le Mouvement Ennahdha aux autres partis participant au Dialogue National à propos de la tenue des élections législatives et présidentielles.

Mohsen Marzouk a précisé que la nouvelle constitution du pays exige la tenue des élections présidentielles avant la tenue des législatives puisque le nouveau président du pays devra demander au bloc majoritaire de choisir un chef du Gouvernement.
