Egypt's opposition threatens boycott of parliamentary elections over draft laws

Two new laws aimed at regulating Egypt's upcoming parliamentary elections and the performance of the House of Representatives have triggered a sharp backlash from most political parties, be they old guard political parties or new revolutionary movements.

The differences over the two laws must be settled by newly-elected president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi before 18 July as the new constitution, passed on 18 January, stipulates that preparations for Egypt's parliamentary polls must begin within six months of its ratification or before 18 July.

Six (6) membres du gouvernement mauritanien ont été désignés directeurs de campagne du président sortant, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, dans différentes wilayas du pays, a-t-on appris de la direction du parti au pouvoir, l’UPR.

Le ministre de la Communication et des Relations avec les parlements Sidi Mohamed Ould Maham a été nommé directeur de campagne au niveau de la wilaya du Hodh E-Chargui. Son homologue de l'Habitat de l'Urbanisme et de l'Aménagement du territoire Fatima Habib ira au Brakna.

Abdul Rahim Ayoubi, the leader of Hizb-e-Milate Mutahed, announced an endorsement of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai at a gathering in Kabul on Sunday. 
 
Abdul Rahim Ayoubi, who is also a member the Lower House, also criticized Ghani's runoff rival, Abdullah Abdullah.
 
The endorsement comes at a critical time in the election process, as runoff campaigning peaks just two weeks before Election Day on June 14. And it joins a series of high-profile endorsements that Ghani has received since the end of the first round.

Parliamentary polls should be held even if under old election law

Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun said that the parliamentary polls scheduled for later this year should be held even if based on the old election law.

“The priority is, of course, for holding a presidential election, but if the [presidential election] is obstructed, we must hold the parliamentary polls,” Aoun said in an interview to Al-Liwaa daily to be published Monday.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) announced that the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential ticket would be listed as number 1 on ballots for the presidential election following an election number draw at the commission’s headquarters on Sunday.

Meanwhile, rivals Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Jusuf Kalla will be listed at number 2 on ballots, kompas.com has reported.

During the event, Jokowi and Kalla were given first turn to pick a number.

Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi asserted that the upcoming presidential elections herald the end of crisis in Syria, while forces in the US, Europe and the Gulf who support terrorism work to prolong the crisis.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Mah Siew Keong's victory in the recent Teluk Intan by-election marks a turning point for Gerakan and an opportunity for the party to prove themselves to the people, said analysts.

PML-Q, PAT to launch anti-govt movement next month

LAHORE: The PML-Q and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek decided on Saturday to launch a movement against the government next month. The decision was made by the two parties at a meeting in London which set a 10-point agenda they intend to achieve either “through pressuring the government or sending it home”.

The meeting was attended by PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Husain, Pervaiz Elahi, Moonis Elahi and PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri and his team.
