Mueren cuatro policías en un ataque contra la vivienda de ministro del Interior de Túnez

Al menos cuatro policías han muerto este martes a consecuencia de un ataque contra la vivienda del ministro del Interior de Túnez, Lotfi ben Jeddou, en la localidad de Kasserine, según ha informado la emisora tunecina Mosaique FM.

En base a estas informaciones, otros dos agentes han resultado heridos de diversa consideración en el ataque. Por el momento ningún grupo ha reclamado la autoría del incidente.

Thousands of mostly pro-Assad supporters flocked to the Syrian Embassy Wednesday to cast ballots in the presidential elections, causing suffocating traffic jams around Beirut.

The embassy opened its doors in the early hours of the morning when hundreds walked to the only polling station available to vote, with Syrian anthems blaring from cars and buses decorated with photos of Syrian President Bashar Assad and Hezbollah flags.

Media Commission of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) asked media outlets to stay responsible and neutral during the coverage of the election process. In a joint meeting with representatives of media outlets on Wednesday, head of the IEC Media Commission listed a number of media violations committed during the elections. He asserted that media outlets that violate the election code of conduct would face legal action.

The nearly two-week arrest of the National Umma Party leader, Sadiq al-Mahdi, stirred conflicting reactions among Sudanese opposition parties that have accepted to be part of the national dialogue process.

The Reform Now Party (RNP), of Ghazi Salah Eddin al-Attabani criticized al-Mahdi’s arrest and recent measures restricting the freedom of the press, saying it would derail the national dialogue. But, the Popular Congress Party (PCP) of Hassan al-Turabi reiterated that it would not abandon the political process.

Respublika faction has excluded two deputies Nurbek Alimbekov and Akylbek Eshimov from its membership. The leader of the faction Nazarali Aripov informed 24.kg news agency.

According to him, these MPs joined the parliamentary group "Yntymak" and put their signatures under the coalition agreement that is contrary to the provisions of the faction. "That's why they were excluded," he said.

Respublika faction now has seven deputies.

Biz community declares support for Jokowi-Kalla

Dozens of businesspeople grouped under the Businesspeople’s Community for Jokowi-JK declared their support for presidential candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his running mate Jusuf Kalla on Wednesday.

"Both Jokowi and Kalla have business backgrounds. We believe that they, if elected, will create policies that are pro-business," the community's chairman, Yugi Prayanto, said during the declaration of the support in Jakarta.

Court confirms military, police neutrality in July election

The Constitutional Court issued a ruling on Wednesday confirming that active military and police personnel were not eligible to vote in the July 9 presidential election, following a judicial review of the 2008 Election Law proposed by a non-governmental organization.

The review was filed due to the possibility of multi-interpretation of the regulation.

Child protection should be part of the presidential debate: KPAI

The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has asked the General Elections Commission (KPU) to include the topic of child protection as part of the presidential debate before the election on July 9.

"We want to push the issue of child protection as one of the debate topics for the scheduled presidential debate," KPAI chairman Asrorun Niam Sholeh said as quoted by kompas.com.

Between June 8 and July 5, there will be two presidential debates, two vice-presidential debates, and one final debate with both pairs.

They partied their way up the 10-kilometer hill toward the Syrian Embassy, waving flags and posters in the oppressive heat. They dodged stick-wielding soldiers at checkpoints and waited for hours in massive lines and heaving scrums of bodies. And finally, tens of thousands of Syrians living here cast their ballots Wednesday as voting started for expatriates ahead of their country's presidential election early next week.

But if there were three names on the ballot -- President Bashar Assad and two carefully vetted members of parliament -- there was no suspense as to the outcome.
