Kyrgyzstan: Local Voting Unsettles National Politics

Kyrgyzstan, the closest thing Central Asia has to a working democracy, just held municipal elections. The results are generating tension within the national governing coalition, fueling complaints that new voices are being stifled and causing some observers to raise the specter of a possible repeat of recent history.

Voters in five key municipalities in Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek, Batken, Jalal-Abad, Naryn and Talas – cast ballots November 25 to select new city councils, which choose mayors and make decisions on municipal spending.

Majlis approves draft budget

Muscat: The Majlis  Al Shura yesterday voted its approval of the Economic and Financial Committee's report on the State Draft Budget for the fiscal year 2013. 

Earlier, discussions were held between Majlis Al Shura members and Darwish bin Ismail Al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs.

MoI authorizes opposition demo – Court won’t rule on electoral decree

KUWAIT: The Interior Ministry yesterday issued a permit to the organizers of the opposition demonstration on Friday, one day before the Dec 1 election. The opposition has decided to stage the demonstration in protest against holding the election on the basis of the amended electoral law. Interior Ministry spokesman Col Adel Al-Hashash told a press conference yesterday that the ministry issued the permit after it found that the application submitted by the organizers met the conditions set by the ministry, mainly that the demonstration must be peaceful.

16 Ministries Fail to Spend 50pc of Uplift Funds

Sixteen ministries and 17 government departments failed to spend half of their developmental budgets during the outgoing financial year, the Wolesi Jirga Finance and Budget Commission said on Monday.
Under Article 98 of the constitution, the government has to present to the lower during the last quarter of each financial year the budget for the next year. A precise account of the previous year budget will be presented to the assembly during the next six months.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Tuesday expressed satisfaction that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed arrangements for holding the general election in the country.

 The Prime Minister made these remarks while talking to Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan here at the PM House.

 The Secretary Election Commission informed the Prime Minister that a code of conduct has also been prepared by the Election Commission prohibiting display of weapons during election campaign.

 The Prime Minister appreciated the decision.

More than six weeks after being shot, reportedly by his own troops, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz returned home Saturday evening from France, where he'd been receiving medical treatment.

After arriving at Nouakchott Airport in the West African nation's capital, Aziz met with government officials and legislative leaders, according to the state-run AMI news agency.

IHEC approves 23 political entities

 The IHEC approves (23) PEs that presented their request to participate in GCEs which take place on 20 April. Next year.

Mr. Moqdad Al Sharify, CEO declared that the number of political entity approved by the IEHC are (23) political entity and the IHEC still accept requests from a different entities according to the procedures and regulations that adopted by IHEC.

The IHEC Opened the political entity registration untill 25 November after approved the certification regulation of the PE and coalition.
