Sudan lodges three complaints against Uganda with African regional blocs

The Sudanese government filed a series of complaints against Uganda with the African Union (AU), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), an official in Khartoum said today.

The Undersecretary of Sudan’s foreign ministry Rahmatallah Mohamed Osman said that his government accused Kampala of trying to overthrow the regime and embracing anti-Khartoum rebel movements.

EC to appoint observers from Asean for 13th General Election

The Election Commission (EC) will appoint observers from several Asean countries to monitor the coming general election, said EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

The EC, through a selected panel set up on the advice of Wisma Putra, was expected to appoint observers from Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand, apart from several observers from the Asean secretariat itself, he said.

Competition to be tight in 2014

President Susilo Yudhoyono in Jakarta has said that competition would be very tight in the presidential elections in 2014.

"The 2014 presidential elections would be different from the ones in 2004 and 2009 because there will be no incumbent in the 2014 elections while the political arena would be very wide to make the competition widen and fiercer than before," he said at a general lecture on the national democracy in 2013 held by the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) here on Tuesday.

Sudan accuse US & EU of standing behind "New Dawn" charter

The Sudanese presidential assistant Nafie Ali Nafie accused both the United States and the European Union (EU) of providing the funding and support to the "New Dawn" charter signed by opposition parties this month in Uganda.

The accord endorsed by most major Sudanese opposition parties along with rebel groups fighting Khartoum in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile calls for toppling the government dominated by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah appointed Prince Saud bin Nayef as governor of the oil-producing Eastern Province, the Royal Court said in a statement carried by state news agency SPA.

"Prince Mohamad bin Fahad bin Abdulaziz is relieved of his duties as the governor of the Eastern Province, upon his request, and Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz ... is appointed governor of the Eastern province," the statement released on Monday said.

The Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir again blasted opposition parties for signing what is known as the "New Dawn" charter saying that it will be combated using the Quran.

The deal signed last week between most major Sudanese opposition parties and armed rebel movements affirm the common goal of toppling the regime though the signatories disagreed on means to achieve that.

Another contentious clause relates to the relation between the religion and the state which the participants say it seeks to avoid using religion in politics.
