UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated the Iraqi people to hold parliamentary elections after defeating Daesh militarily, stressing that the elections represented further progress towards building a stronger Iraqi democracy.

In a statement to UNAMI, the Secretary-General praised the efforts of election officials, partys' representatives and security forces to make the elections largely peaceful and organized. He praised all the Iraqis who participated, especially those who voted despite their difficult circumstances.

Calls have gone out from senior municipal council officials to allow expatriates who are residing in Bahrain and own properties or businesses in the Kingdom to take part in the quadrennial municipal elections, similar to the citizens of GCC countries. The participation of foreign investors in municipal elections has been raised multiple times in recent years, confirms Muharraq Municipal Council Chairman Mohammed Al Sinan.

La HAICA a indiqué dans son rapport sur la couverture de Radio Mosaïque FM des élections municipales que 9 heures, 47 minutes et 23 secondes ont été accordés aux acteurs politiques.

Dans son rapport, la HAICA a noté que les références de Mosaïque FM dans sa couverture sont proches de celles fixées par la décision conjointe de l’ISIE et la HAICA concernant la couverture des élections. L’unique exception est celle de l’espace accordé aux listes indépendantes. Le taux de référence était de 36%. Pour Mosaïque FM, l’espace accordé était de 41,7%.

Muharrem İnce, the main opposition Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) presidential candidate, has vowed he will never use the presidential powers granted by the 2017 referendum on constitutional amendments in the event that he is elected as president. 

“There are vast powers given to the president. But I will not use them. I will be afraid to,” İnce said at an event with representatives of civil society organizations in the Black Sea province of Trabzon on May 11.

The new parliament will hold a session on May 22 to re-elect AMAL Movement leader Nabih Berri to a sixth term as Parliament Speaker, a media report said.

"The Parliament Bureau will soon convene under the most senior MP, Michel Murr, to make the necessary preparations ahead of a session to elect a new speaker," al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Friday, noting that "there are confirmed indications that Berri will be re-elected."

"The election session will likely be held on May 22," the daily added.
