Sur la base de l’inventaire des forces et faiblesses du mécanisme de mise à jour du fichier électoral et de son système de gestion, le Comité national d’audit du fichier électoral appuyé par une équipé d’expert de l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) a formulé des recommandations dont la mise en œuvre est prévue à moyen terme et donné son feu vert au Fichier électoral audité.

As Lebanon gears for its second day of Lebanese expats voting on Sunday, the United States’ foreign ministry said the US “will not interfere in the right of Lebanese to vote,” MTV reported Saturday.

“The US administration will not interfere in the Lebanese right to vote,” a US source from the US foreign ministry told the television station on condition of anonymity.

MTV added that around 10,000 Lebanese expats are set to cast their votes on Sunday.

Une mission de l’Assemblée parlementaire paritaire ACP-UE, qui a visité la Mauritanie du 24 au 26 avril courant, « encourage » les autorités du pays à « assurer le développement d’un processus électoral inclusif sur la base d’un recensement de la population et des électeurs sans lacune ». 

« La mission reconnaît la nécessité d’intensifier les efforts pour le renforcement de la démocratie, de l’Etat de droit et du respect des droits humains», selon un communiqué parvenu à Alakhbar.

Al-Bashir: "Sudan’s new constitution to be approved by next parliament"

The Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir on Thursday said the permanent constitution would be approved by the elected parliament following the 2020 elections.

On Thursday, al-Bashir met with the parliament speaker Ibrahim Ahmed Omer who handed him over the parliament response to his address before the National Assembly earlier this month.

In a press release following the meeting, al-Bashir said the “next legislature would approve the permanent constitution according to the recommendation of the national dialogue”.

The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah while addressing the Budget Session chastized the ruling PML-N for trampling upon Nawaz Sharif's slogan demanding respect for the vote by disrespecting it themselves. 

He was criticizing the appointment of Miftah Ismail who is not an elected representative as the Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs. Shah said that Rana Afzal a member of the ruling party was available and qualified for the post of finance minister but the party chose to appoint Ismail instead.

Expatriates kicked off Lebanon's parliamentary polls by voting abroad on Friday, a first for the small country's huge diaspora.

The 12,611 Lebanese voters registered in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Egypt will be the first to cast ballots for the 128 seats in Lebanon's parliament.

The overall voter turnout was at 48.11% at 5:25 pm Beirut time according to the National News Agency.

Voters elsewhere in the world will vote on Sunday, a week before the May 6 polling in Lebanon, which has not renewed its parliament since 2009.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim al-Jubouri stressed that "the upcoming elections will be the most competitive since 2005.

"The political targeting of many political leaders has not exceeded the law in my election campaign. I have not received any external funding for my campaign," he said in a televised statement.

"The national list entered in all provinces and the largest weight in the western provinces. The National Coalition is not a temporary compound for me. We began knitting the bridges of partnership with some political coalitions after the elections."

Bill to bring Turkey’s election system in line with constitutional reforms approved in 2017 referendum. 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday signed a harmonization law to bring Turkey’s election system in line with constitutional reforms approved last year in a referendum, according to the presidency.

Under the law, Turkish citizens living abroad can cast their votes until three days before election day in Turkey, scheduled for June 24.

Egypt has extended its state of emergency for the fourth time, sparking controversy in political and legal circles about the security reasons behind this step and whether the decision is constitutional.

The constitution clearly states that a state of emergency can last a maximum of three months, with one three-month extension. Egypt has been living under a state of emergency for 12 months, and now has at least three more months to go.
