Official Spokesperson Omar Hmaidan explained during a press conference yesterday that the GNC is on the verge of discussing the law for the return of property appropriated by the previous regime.
Hmaidan revealed that the association of owners of these properties had put forward a proposal for the return of their properties, but that there are those who are opposed to such a law, and that they had in turn put forward an alternative proposal.
The Spokesperson noted that the GNC was fully aware of the danger of a law that would return appropriated property to its original owners in view of its effect on the social fabric and local peace.
He pointed out that many of these properties had exchanged hands numerous times, purchased by citizens using their money, and with legal contracts, many in good faith on the basis of the laws over the past 40 years.
Ultimately, Hmaidan pointed out that the GNC was not in a hurry to pass such a law at this time.
