The 6,450 Libyans registered abroad to vote in the Constitutional Committee elections today started casting their votes.

There are 19 polling stations in 13 countries – nine more than in the 2012 elections for the General National Congress (GNC). It was, however, seen as surprising that Morocco and Malta were not included in the list. Maltese officials estimate that there are more than 4,000 Libyans currently residing in Malta.

Voters will be able to choose to cast their vote in any sub-constituency of their choice. A ballot paper will be printed from a matrix held on embassy computers.

There are polling stations in:

Canada: Ottawa and Calgary

Egypt:  Cairo

Germany:  Berlin and Bonn

Ireland Dublin

Italy: Rome

Jordan: Amman

Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur

Qatar: Doha

Tunis: Tunisia

Turkey:  Istanbul

UAE:  Dubai

UK: London and Manchester

USA: Washington DC, Denver, Houston and Los Angeles
