KAJANG: Former Agriculture and Agro-based Industry deputy minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shariff Omar has joined PKR, almost a year after he was sacked from Umno.
"I came all the way from Penang to voice my support to Pakatan Rakyat. I felt that this is a calling," he told the crowd at a ceramah held at Stadium Kajang here, Friday.
Besides Mohd Shariff, five Umno division leaders have also joined the party.
Mohd Shariff, a former Penang deputy chief minister, has served as an assemblyman and Tasek Gelugor MP for six terms.
He was automatically sacked from Umno after he filed his nomination papers to stand in GE13 as an independent candidate in April last year.
Present at the ceramah were PKR's candidate Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ibrahim, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang and PAS election director Hatta Ramli.
