Tripoli, 15 June 2014:

The High National Electoral Commission (HNEC) has confirmed that the deadline for voters living abroad to register electronically through the website www.livingabroad.ly is  midnight today.

The number of registered voters living abroad reached 9587 this morning, according to HNEC.

Meanwhile, angry youths in Beida have closed the HNEC office in protest at the  elections.

“Their request is to postpone vote until the nation’s security situation improves,” Ashraf Mousa, Beida HNEC Observers’ Coordinator explained to the Libya Herald. “

They were furious and locked the doors of the office, but I think the matter can be resolved very shortly,” he added.

In other election news, HNEC Training Department Manager Ryad Burshan confirmed of the arrival of ballot papers, registration books and other election material on a private plane at Tripoli International Airport yesterday evening.  In a ceremony at the airport HNEC Commissioner Abubakr Ali Mohamed Al-Marda and UNDP Libya Director Selva Ramachandran were on hand to receive the consignment.
