The High Elections Committee (HEC) announced on Wednesday that it will redraw the boundaries of two electoral constituencies, one in Cairo and one in the Upper Egypt governorate of Qena, in accordance with an Administrative Court ruling issued on Monday.
On Monday, the Administrative Court ruled that the cabinet must redraw two constituency boundaries due to administrative errors committed.
The cabinet initially drafted Egypt's constituency boundaries in December 2014 as part of preparations for parliamentary elections. The lawsuit pointed out that they contradicted another definition of constituency boundaries published by the cabinet which included errors, and it was unclear which boundaries the prime minister intended to finalise.
The HEC spokesman Omar Marwan said on Wednesday that the HEC had held a meeting to redraw the boundaries of the two constituencies according to the court verdict.
He added that registration for parliamentary hopefuls in the two constituencies will remain open until 15 September.
The parliamentary elections in Egypt will be held over several phases from 17 October to 2 December.
Elections were originally planned to take place in March and April, and candidate registration began accordingly, but the Supreme Constitutional Court ruled that the electoral constituency law was unconstitutional, bringing preparations to a halt.
Egypt has been without a parliament since June 2012 when a Supreme Constitutional Court ruling dissolved the Islamist-dominated parliament after finding the electoral law to be unlawful.
In December 2010 the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) invalidated the two phases of the November 2010 parliamentary elections creating a huge debate about the legality of the controversial 2010 parliamentary elections.
