The President of the House of Representatives, Ageela Salah Gwaider has declared three days of mourning for the nine people killed yesterday in Kish Square when missiles were launched at an anti-UN Dialogue demonstration. Militants from Ansar Al-Sharia and the Islamic State (IS) have been blamed.

In his statement he also ordered the head of the Libyan armed forces, General Khalifa Hafter, to hit the terrorists “with an iron fist”.  Hafter has meanwhile met with commanders of land and air forces to intensify action against the militants.

Separately, in a joint statement, most of Cyrenaica’s municipal councils have announced they are pulling out of the Dialogue in response to the massacre.

The decision is a further blow to the Dialogue process already reeling from the HoR refusal last Monday to approve the Government of National Accord and the Dialogue Agreement. UN Special Envoy has announced that the Dialogue will continue and negotiations were due to recommence in Skhirat on Tuesday, but even before the Kish massacre the HoR had said that it was planning to change its team. It is unlikely now that a new one will be approved in time.
