UNSMIL chief Martin Kobler has said he hopes that ministers from other governments will follow the example of Italy’s foreign affairs chief Paolo Gentiloni and visit Tripoli.

Yesterday Gentiloni became the first outside minister to visit Tripoli since the security crisis broke in the summer of 2014 and most diplomatic missions decamped to Tunis.

Kobler today thanked Gentiloni for making the trip: “It is a great sign of solidarity for the Presidency Council and the people of Libya” he said,  “I hope other ministers will also visit to give support”.

The foreign minister’s visit coincided with a delivery by a C-130 transport plane of food and medicines from Italy.  Kobler also hailed this saying that this was exactly what Libyans needed. “Deeds count more than words” he said.

It was originally reported that the supplies would be going to hospitals in Benghazi as well as Tripoli. However today it became unclear if this was correct and it seemed that all would .
