TEHRAN (FNA)- Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli made the first official announcement about President Hassan Rouhani's bid to win a second term in office in the next year presidential election in Iran.

"Yes, I confirm that President Rouhani will be a candidate in the next presidential election," Rahmani Fazli said in an exlusive interview with FNA.

He said that Iran's election headquarters will launch official work in January 2017, and added, "Enrollment of candidates will take place on April10-14, 2017."

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has introduced three ministerial nominees to lead the Iranian ministries of sports and youth affairs, education as well as culture and Islamic guidance.

In a letter to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday, Rouhani named his picks for the three vacant ministerial portfolios for votes of confidence.

The president proposed the current head of the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran, Reza Salehi Amiri, for the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

The Supreme Leader issued the decree according to Article 110 of Iran's Constitution and following his consultations with the country's Expediency Council.

Stipulating the electoral constituencies of Parliament and City Councils based on population, banning foreign funding for electoral campaigns, and preventing electoral offences are among the topics of election policies outlined by the Supreme Leader.

Tehran, Aug 11, IRNA – Elections director general of interior ministry announced that the enrolment of the candidates for next presidential election will take place on April 11-15, 2017.

‘The candidates of the 12th presidential election can enroll on April 11-15,’ Ali Pourali Motlaq said on Thursday.

He pointed out that the presidential candidates can engage in electoral campaign on April 28-May 18 after the Guardians Council reviewing their qualifications.

Buying votes ‘critical damage’ to elections integrity

TEHRAN, Aug. 06 (MNA) – New spokesperson of the Guardian Council has admitted that buying and selling votes during elections damage the health of elections and should be seriously addressed.

Abbasali Kadkhodaei who was speaking in his press conference on Saturday announced the official acknowledgement of the fact of ‘trading votes’ after Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the Secretary-General of the Council had criticized the general trend earlier last week.

TEHRAN, Aug. 02 (MNA) – While the official dates for the 2017 presidential election will be announced in Nov., Mehr News has drawn up dates based on the previous elections' timetables.

Following Ministry of Interior Affair’s letter to the Guardian Council suggesting to postpone the 2017 election day due to its concurrence with the fasting month of Ramadan, the Council in today’s session agreed to hold the presidential elections on 19 May 2017.

Larijani Reinstated as Parliament Speaker

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Principlist camp won the first major rivalry with the reformists at the Iranian parliament after their nominee Ali Larijani was once again elected as the speaker of the legislature on Sunday.

Larijani won the post after earning 173 votes and defeated the reformists' candidate Mohammad Reza Aref who could win 103 votes. 5 lawmakers abstained.

TEHRAN, May 24 (MNA) – Ahmad Jannati was appointed as the chairman of 5th Assembly of Experts which began to work on Tuesday.

At the opening session of the 5th Assembly of Experts held on Tuesday morning in Tehran, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati was elected as the chairman of the 5th Assembly of Experts on Tuesday.

Accordingly, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati received 51 votes out of 86, Ayatollah Ebrahim Amini and Ayatollah Seyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi also got 21 and 13 votes, respectively.

MP decries unclear reason for candidate’s elimination

Iranian MP Ahmad Tavakoli has expressed serious reservations about the Guardian Council’s disqualification of Minoo Khaleghi, the candidate who won the third-highest number of votes in Isfahan, and said the lack of transparency around this decision compromises the council’s credibility.

Tavakoli writes in his Telegram note that such an action is unprecedented and the public outrage is has triggered is only reasonable.

Iranian media report that Massoumeh Aghapour, Samieh Mahmoudi, Zahra Sai and Khadijeh Rabii managed to win the most votes in their ridings on Friday April 29.

In the first round, 14 women won seats in Parliament, although the fate of Minoo Khaleghi, the candidate who won the third-highest number of votes in Isfahan, which has five candidates in Parliament, is still unclear.

Khaleghi’s votes have been voided by the Guardian Council, but the Ministry of the Interior and President Hassan Rohani have opposed the council’s act.

Reformists lead in second round of elections

Unofficial results of the second round of parliamentary elections indicate that reformists are once more leading in most ridings. Four women, two independents and two reformists, in Shahreza, Borojen, Shabestar and Tabirz have won seats in parliament.

Elections Office announced that the counting has ended and the official announcement of the result will be done after the spuervisroy committees have approved the count.

The interior ministry has announced that the final results will be announced by 8 am local time.

Iranians vote in parliamentary run-off elections

Iranians vote in run-off parliamentary elections in which 68 seats are up for grabs in the 290-seat Majlis. 

"People will vote for 68 undecided seats in constituencies that candidates failed to get 25 percent of votes cast in the first round of the election," said Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli on Friday. 

Polls opened at 8:00 local time (0430 GMT) on Friday and will close at 7.00 p.m., but voting can be extended depending on the turnout. 

Elected reformist MPs to meet first time since winning

Iranian reformist MP Mohammadreza Tabesh has announced that the reformist and moderate MPs who won seats in the first round of elections are to meet for the first time since then.

The reformists had published a list of candidates they endorsed, referred to as the Omid List (Hope List). Most of these candidates, especially the ones in Tehran, won in their ridings.

Tabesh reported that the group will meet on Saturday April 30 and will begin discussing the establishment of the Hope Faction within Parliament.
