FNC elections: Big win for the people of UAE
Never mind most of them couldn't make it. But at the end of the FNC voting on Saturday, camaraderie was all around as the UAE announced "all are winners".

Seven electoral lists run in first stage of Egypt's parliamentary elections: HEC
Seven electoral alliances are running in the first stage of the parliamentary elections slated for 18-19 October, the High Elections Committee (HEC) announced in a statement on Saturday.
There are four lists contesting 15 seats in the West Delta, which are the Salafist Nour Party, Fi Hob Misr list (for the Love of Egypt), Forsan Misr (The Knights of Egypt) and the combined electoral list of the Egyptian Front and the Independence Current.

FNC elections saw a total of 79,175 votes with a turnout of 35.29% of the electoral roll across the UAE, said Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Federal National Council Affairs.
"This election process is considered a successful one by all standards," Dr Anwar Gargash.
Egypt's parliamentary elections: More seats, fewer candidates
In a statement on Egypt's upcoming parliamentary elections on 16 September, the Higher Elections Committee (HEC) in charge of supervising the polls announced that a total of 5,955 individuals had applied to run in the polls. One day later, however, the committee said the applications of as many as 535 individuals had been rejected, thus lowering the number of independent candidates to 5,420.
Candidates launch campaigns for Shura Election in Oman
Muscat: Oman is fully prepared for the 2015-2019 Shura Council election, to be held on October 25 through unprecedented public electoral campaigns.
Authorities will allow candidates to use any means to campaign, as per electoral regulations.
Electoral signs and banners of candidates are a common scene in Muscat and other provinces.
Hilal Al Wuhaibi, a candidate from Mutrah province, said that he put up more than five campaign posters in Mutrah in the hopes of reaching a wider audience.
“I used Twitter, Whatsapp and Facebook [to campaign],” said Al Wuhaibi.
Two assailants who injured journalist Ahmet Hakan revealed as AKP members
Two of the four suspects who were detained after a physical assault that injured prominent Turkish journalist Ahmet Hakan have been revealed as members of the Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Muscat: In high spirits and with a relentless pursuit to compete in the next Shura Council election in Oman, to be held on October 25, Balqees Al Nadabi, one of the 20 women vying for seats in the election nationwide, is ready for the race.
She is among 10 candidates of Baushar province in Muscat for the next election, but faces stiff competition from Mohammad Al Busaidi, a popular former member of the Shura from her constituency, who is also a candidate for the next elections.
Troops to stay at polling stations till completion of vote-count

The Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Thursday that army and Rangers would remain deployed in and outside polling stations till completion of counting of votes in the coming by-elections in Punjab.
The ECP said in a statement: “The personnel of Pakistan Army/Rangers may start patrolling / flag-march in the constituencies No NA-144 (Okara-II), NA-122 (Lahore-V), PP-147 (Lahore-XI) and PP-16 (Attock-II) before, on and after the said by-elections till midnight following the consolidation of results by the returning officer.”

UAE set for FNC election
Thirty-six polling stations have been prepped across the country to receive voters for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections that will take place tomorrow from 8am until 8pm.
Voters can pick candidates through the electronic voting system which can be accessed by entering the National ID and is the only certified document which authorises its holder to practise his/her electoral right.
The National Elections Committee (NEC) said on Thursday that it has completed all arrangements and procedures.
CHP backs AKP vice chairman on debate on moving polling stations
Justice and Development Party (AKP) Vice Chairman Mehmet Ali Şahin’s suggestion that Turkey’s Supreme Election Board (YSK) does not have the authority to move polling stations is correct, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Secretary-General Gürsel Tekin has said.
“I congratulate Mehmet Ali Şahin on his status as a legal expert. There is, for the first time, a correct voice from the AKP,” Tekin told the Hürriyet Daily News on Oct. 2.
“I agree with what [Şahin] has said. The constitution is clear. The YSK cannot take such a decision,” he added.
Jassar quits after ruling
Minister of Electricity and Water and Public Works Ahmad Al-Jassar submitted his resignation yesterday and did not attend the regular meeting of the Cabinet as a result. Jassar tendered his resignation after the lower court on Monday sentenced him and 14 former and current officials from the ministry of electricity and water to a two-year jail term and dismissal from service, with an option to pay KD 1,000 to suspend the imprisonment. They were also fined KD 20,000 each.
Municipal polls: 6,140 candidates in the fray
A total of 6,140 men and women candidates will contest the third municipal elections to be held on Dec. 12, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and published Wednesday by Makkah daily.
The report said the candidates consist of 5,275 men and 865 women who are participating for the first time as voters and candidates.
According to the report, Asir Province has 47 men but no women candidates. With 1,061 contenders, Riyadh region has the largest number of candidates consisting of 899 men and 162 women.

Akkar Protesters Vow to Stand in Way of Waste Trucks
Akkar anti-trash activists organized a new sit-in on Wednesday to reject government plans to set up a so-called sanitary garbage landfill in the Akkar town of Srar.
The sit-in that was held in the Akkar town of Shir Hmayrin was organized by the “Akkar is Not a Dump” campaign and other activists amid a participation by a number of municipalities and mayors from the region.
