El dirigente político Mohamed Brahmi, ex secretario general del movimiento de izquierdas Echaab (Movimiento del Pueblo) fue asesinado este jueves a tiros frente a su casa, en la capital tunecina, informaron fuentes políticas.

El Ministerio de Interior tunecino ya ha confirmado el asesinato y ha asegurado que las fuerzas de seguridad están llevando a cabo las medidas necesarias.

Rama Outlines Changes to Albanian Cabinet

Rama said that the reconstruction of the cabinet "has been based on a detailed analysis of the current government and all its branches, which in our opinion contains parasitcal structures and require cuts".

The new cabinet will have 19 ministries, four more than the outgoing government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, he noted.

Rama’s Socialist-led alliance won a landslide victory in the June 23 parliamentary election, winning 84 of the 140 seats in parliament.

Tamarod and NSF announce participation in Friday demonstrations

The National Salvation Front (NSF) said millions would take to the streets in Friday demonstrations against terrorism and in support of the roadmap put in place for a constitution and elections.

The NSF condemned the Muslim Brotherhood for surpassing “red lines” including allegedly attempting to create splits and divisions within the ranks of the army and warning of recreating the Syrian crisis in Egypt.

Constitutional Court rejects vote petition

The Constitutional Court yesterday rejected a petition demanding to halt the general election over suspicions that the Amiri decree calling for polls is unconstitutional. Accordingly, the election will be held as initially decided on July 27. The petition was filed by lawyer Adel Abdulhadi who has argued that the formation of the current Kuwait Cabinet violates conditions required under the constitution, an argument that was not accepted by the Administrative Court about two weeks ago.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that leaders and officials from across the world, except for the United States and Israel, have been invited to Rohani’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for August 4, one day after his endorsement ceremony by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will travel to Iran to participate in the ceremony.

Pro-Morsi protests lead to clashes in governorates

Protests by supporters of former president Mohamed Morsi in the governorates of Qaliubiya, Mansoura and Damietta on Monday escalated to clashes, leaving at least two dead.

Pro-Morsi protesters were reportedly harassed by residents of the areas where protests were held, incidents which soon led to clashes. Tarek Al-Morsi, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) spokesman, denied that the harassers were local residents.

Around 105,000 members of the party are heading to the ballot box on Monday to select a new party leader, with the main contenders being Tirana mayor Lulzim Basha and transport minister Sokol Olldashi.

This is the first time in the party’s history that rank-and-file members vote directly for their chairman.

Berisha resigned as party boss following the defeat in the June 23 parliamentary elections, won by a landslide by the Socialists headed by former Tirana mayor Edi Rama.

Presidency announces transitional period to last nine months

The transitional period that includes constitutional amendments, parliamentary elections and ends with presidential elections is expected to finish within nine months, said Mostafa Higazy, presidential advisor for political affairs.

In a press conference at the presidential palace on Wednesday, Higazy announced that the roadmap detailed in the constitutional declaration released last week is beginning to come to shape, reported state-run Al-Ahram.
