Bosnia's NATO Hopes Fade Ahead of Summit

Bosnia's NATO Membership Action Plan, MAP, is not likely to be activated at the next Alliance summit in Warsaw on July 8 and 9, given its failure to adopt key reforms which were set as a key condition for membership, Ines Kuburovic, the spokesperson of the NATO headquarters in Sarajevo, told BIRN on Monday.

"The MAP for Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be activated at the next NATO Summit in Warsaw... since the condition [set for its activation at the 2010 NATO summit in Tallinn] has not been met," Kuburovic said.

President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev nominated the candidates for the election by the members of the Central Election Commission. The Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration reported.

According to it, the President, in accordance with Paragraph 2 Part 5 of Article 64 of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic has made the following nominations for the election by the CEC members: Almaz Asanaliev, Gulnara Baatyrova, Bakhtiyar Kadyrov, Nurzhan Shayldabekova.

Palestinian Authority sets municipal elections for October 8

The Palestinian cabinet on Tuesday, which meets weekly in Ramallah, have announced a decision to hold municipal elections on October 8, according to a statement released by the cabinet.  

The cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, appointed a central elections committee to start preparations for the upcoming elections and gave the local governance minister the responsibility of following up on organizing efforts and facilitating elections with the central elections committee.

The House of Representatives had passed the draft revision of the Regional Elections Law on June 2. However, the bill has not yet been signed into law and numbered by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration.

IEC Says it will Announce Election Date Amid Reform Controversy

The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) said Thursday that the election management body is preparing to announce the schedule for the parliamentary and district council's elections.

This comes a week after the Afghan parliament rejected a presidential legislative decree on electoral reforms, a decision that has sparked strong reactions among the election monitors.

 Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah issued a statement decrying Israel's national water company Mekorot's decision to cut off water supplies to several Palestinian cities and villages.

“Israel wants to prevent Palestinians from leading a dignified life and uses its control over our water resources to this end; while illegal Israeli settlements enjoy uninterrupted water service, Palestinians are forced to spend great sums of money to buy water that is theirs in the first place,” Hamdallah said.

El jefe de la diplomacia estadounidense, John Kerry, advirtió este miércoles a Rusia y al presidente sirio Bashar al Asad sobre la necesidad de respetar el cese de las hostilidades, afirmando que la "paciencia" de Washington era "muy limitada".

"Es evidente que el cese de las hostilidades es frágil y está amenazado, y que es crucial instaurar una verdadera tregua. Somos conscientes, no nos hacemos ilusiones", declaró el secretario de Estado en Oslo, donde se reunió con su homólogo iraní Mohamad Javad Zarif.
